Project background
The client
Country Court is a family-run care provider founded in 1983 with its first home, Beech Lodge in Lincolnshire, caring for just nine residents. Since then, the group has grown significantly through new developments and acquisitions, and today operates 47 care and nursing homes across the UK. Country Court is part of a diverse group made up of over 30 entities, each with its own financial management requirements.
Still family-led, the business is built on values of compassion, dignity, and personalised care, and has established a strong reputation for delivering high-quality residential, nursing, and dementia services. With this rapid expansion, however, came the challenge of ensuring their financial management systems could keep pace with growth.
A growing business with evolving needs
The challenge
Country Court were originally using Sage 200 to manage their finances. As a powerful solution for small- to medium-sized enterprises, it supported the business well for numerous years. However, as the organisation expanded in both size and complexity, the system began to present some limitations. Lisa McLoughlin, Finance Manager, explained how the finance team faced several challenges, such as:
- Multiple entities and charts of accounts: At one point, the business was running 15 entities on Sage 200, each with its own chart of accounts. This meant finance staff had to log out of one company and into another to view information, making consolidation and reporting slow and complex
- Inefficient invoice processing: Invoices often spanned multiple sites across different entities. To process these, Accounts Payable had to part-post invoices to balance sheet accounts and then manually journal costs across companies, creating unnecessary duplication and delays
- Audit challenges: Intercompany transactions frequently didn’t balance due to human error during invoice processing, resulting in the finance team spending valuable time manually matching off entries
- Complex cross-company processes: To allocate costs across entities, the team had to raise a journal in one company and then remember to raise the contra journal in another. As Lisa noted, cross-company charging felt “virtually impossible” in Sage 200.
Taken together, these challenges were slowing down processes, increasing the risk of errors, and placing extra pressure on the finance team at a time when the business was growing rapidly. It became clear to the team that they needed a more advanced, scalable system to support their continued expansion.
An innovative approach
Our solution
Country Court had already built a strong working relationship with our team at Solutions for Accounting (a leading Sage Partner), who supported them on Sage 200. When the time came to upgrade, they knew that working with a trusted partner who understood their business would make the transition smoother and less disruptive.
Our team undertook a review of Country Court’s requirements, factoring in the organisation’s rapid growth, multi-entity structure, and long-term ambitions. From these conversations, the recommendation was clear: Sage Intacct offered the flexibility, scalability, and automation the business needed to move forward.
Lisa explained that, thanks to Solutions’ speedy Sage support and ongoing commitment, the finance team felt confident throughout implementation and beyond:
“Our conversations are often, ‘How can we do this better?’, instead of, ‘How do we do it?’, and that kind of support is amazing.”
She adds: “If we hit a problem, we know that if we have to come to the help desk, you’ll get back to us quickly.”
Scalable, streamlined, and flexible
The outcome
The upgrade to Sage Intacct has transformed Country Court’s financial management. With innovative features at their fingertips, the finance team now works more efficiently, reduces manual effort, and has more time to support the organisation’s ongoing expansion.
Single chart of accounts
Streamlined intercompany accounting
Audit readiness
Faster reporting
Simplified tax compliance
Smoother Accounts Receivable (AR) processes
Scalability
For a growing organisation, centralisation is essential to maintain visibility and control. With Sage Intacct, Country Court’s finance team can access real-time data across multiple entities simultaneously, monitor performance with ease, and utilise powerful insights to inform business strategy.
The single chart of accounts is an absolute godsend […] On a different system, I think we’d have fallen apart by now. We now have over 30 entities; I couldn’t imagine managing that many without Sage Intacct.
Lisa McLoughlin, Finance Manager, Country Court
By upgrading to Sage Intacct with Solutions, Country Court has gained a cloud-based financial management platform that matches the scale and complexity of its operations. The finance team now feels confident they have the tools to support the business as it continues to grow and thrive.
