International Day of Charity lands on September 5th. It’s an UN-nominated day to raise awareness about the incredible work charities are doing to improve people’s lives globally, and to honour the death of Mother Teresa, who devoted her entire life to charity work.
We’re provided with an opportunity to stop, take a step back and think about how we could support a charity this year. This can take form in numerous ways, such as:
- Donating money
- Giving your time to volunteer
- Spreading awareness through platforms like social media
- Organising an event, such as a bake sale.
Here at Solutions, we’ve been keeping busy raising money for our Charity of the Year, Little Miracles, who work tirelessly to support families and their children with life-limiting disabilities.
Read on to discover how we’re making a difference, and how you could get involved.
Every donation helps Little Miracles to provide safe spaces for children with additional needs across the UK
Michelle King, founder of Little Miracles, draws much-needed attention to the fact that 7% of children in the UK are born with a disability, and over 1 million families experience similar situations to hers.
Something that can be incredibly challenging for these families is the loneliness and isolation that their situation brings. It’s charities like Little Miracles that provide a lifeline and safe space for them, creating a strong community of people who understand one another’s struggles.
With the number of people donating to charities decreasing annually, according to the Charities Aid Foundation, it’s more important than ever that we help out in any way we can.
Little Miracles has lots of information on their website about how you could get involved. A few of these include:
- Entering The Big Little Lottery for £2 a month
- Challenge events such as the Lincoln Half Marathon and the 5k Tough Mudder
- Businesses joining their ambassador scheme, choosing them as their Charity of the Year or partnering with them.

Karen Gibbons has been going above and beyond in her fundraising efforts for Little Miracles
Our superstar Sage Consultant, Karen Gibbons, has been working hard since our last update to organise events and activities to gather donations.
Catch up on what she got up to before May: How we’re helping Little Miracles this National Children’s Day
We’re incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment she has put in week in and week out, bringing the team together to support such a worthy cause. Our latest efforts include:
- Continuing the weekly staff quiz, raising a further £190
- Donating food to Little Miracles’ food banks, along with gifts such as Easter eggs, which helped support their Easter Egg Hunt
- Kate and Andy victoriously completed the Lincoln Inflatable 5k, raising a whopping £720
- Leonie organised a Women’s Euros competition, raising £150
- Karen’s spectacular summer fete, raising £534
- Selling Hillary’s knitted ducks and teddies and Mark’s 3D printer items, raising £344
- Jas donated some tasty cupcakes for their Beach Party Day and Family Fun Day
- Karen and Milo’s Dog Jog event, raising £375
- Several of our staff members volunteered at their local Little Miracles branch, helping to tidy up Little Miracles’ garden ready for the Easter holidays.
The much-awaited summer fete was a huge success with numerous activities for staff members and their families to take part in. From welly wanging to name the dog, the evening was full of fun, excitement, and a bit of friendly competition.
There’s still lots to look forward to with exciting activities in the pipeline, such as:
- Quiz rounds three and four
- Name the snowman
- Craft stalls.
Karen’s incredible efforts serve as a testament to how every action can make a huge difference and contribute towards making the lives of the children and families, who Little Miracles supports, a little bit easier. The money raised through internal fundraisers so far, £5,488, could help fund 365 hours of respite care for a child with complex needs, while giving their parents a much-needed break or nearly 220 hours of counselling.
This is reflected in Vicki’s statement:
“On behalf of all of us at Little Miracles, I’d like to extend our thanks to all of you at Solutions for Accounting. You’ve raised an incredible amount through inventive fundraisers and crazy challenges, given up your time to support branches local to you, and been so generous with your food bank donations, sweet treats and crocheted crafts. All of which, has and is making a huge difference to families of children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions. We honestly couldn’t do what we do without support from people like you, so a very heartfelt thank you from us all. We can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeves over the next five months! “
